Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers scored 14 runs on 12 hits but came up one run short against the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders on Tuesday in Magnolia, Ark. The Muleriders won on a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the Tigers 15-14.
Both teams started the game hot at the plate. The Tigers scored five runs in the top half of the first inning.
Parker Norris led off with a single and the next two batters reached base after being hit by the pitcher. Norris scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 and
Will Wallace was walked to load the bases.
Reuben Miller doubled to right, scoring
Jace Melby and
Justin Weigle. With no outs,
Preston Speers hit a sac fly to left, scoring Wallace.
Matt Sinclair would bring home Miller with a single to right center and the Tigers would take a 5-0 lead.
The Muleriders answered in the bottom half of the first, scoring three runs on four hits and would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring six runs on six hits. At the end of the second inning, Southern Arkansas led 9-5.
The Mulerider lead was short lived. The SAU starter, Y. Densaki, led of the third by plunking Miller and Speers before being pulled. He was pulled after hitting his fifth batter of the game.
Evan Ruiz reached on a bunt to third that advanced the runners and loaded the bases with no outs. Sinclair drove in Miller and
Drew Feuerbacher doubled home Ruiz and Speers. A sac fly by Norris would tie the game, 9-9.
Later in the inning, Wallace single through the left side to score Feuerbacher and
Justin Weigle to give the Tigers an 11-9 lead.
SAU scored one run in the bottom of the third, but teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. A three-run homerun to centerfield would put the Muleriders back on top. They added one more run in the bottom half of the sixth to make it a 14-11 game.
With two outs and one on in the top of the seventh,
Jace Melby hammered a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left center to cut the SAU lead to one run. The Tigers would tie it before their third out to tie the game, 14-14.
Josh Reeves came in for the Tigers in relief in the bottom of the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings. In the top half of the tenth and the score still tied, the Tigers were retired in order. SAU would break the tie in their first at bat in the bottom of the 10th with a solo homerun to down the leftfield line.
The Tigers are 10-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play. They will face the University of Arkansas at Monticello this weekend in a three-game road series.,
