Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers faced off with the rival Henderson State Reddies on Tuesday at Sully Anderson Field. The conference foes split the doubleheader 1-1, with Ouachita taking game one in extra-innings, 5-4 and HSU taking game two, 7-1.
Delaney Bedunah got the start in game one for the Tigers. Coming off a win against SWOSU, Bedunah went 8.1 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked none.
Jade Sones (1-3) came in to the game in relief in the eighth, recording two outs and earned the win, her first of the year.
The Reddies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when
Jocelyn Jones hit an RBI double to score
Kate Lacina. After falling behind 2-1 in the top of the fifth, the Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom half to retake the lead.
Kailey Madden and
Sarah Johnson each hit RBI singles to give Ouachita a 3-2 lead. Madden scored the Tigers fourth run on a wild pitch.
The Reddies scored two runs on a RBI double in the top of half of the sixth inning to tie the game 4-4. The game would remain tied through regulation. In the top of the eighth, Henderson State had runners on second and third with one out. The Tigers right fielder,
Kate Lacina caught a deep fly ball and threw home in time to get the runner at the plate. The Tigers would escape the inning still tied.
In the bottom of the ninth with one out,
Kelly Powell singled to load the bases.
Kailey Madden drove in the game-winning run with an infield single.
Jade Sones got the start in game two. Both teams scored in their half of the first inning.
Kailey Madden hit her second homerun of the season in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. It was the lone for the Tigers in game two. Madden and Lacina each had two of the Tigers seven hits in game two.
The Reddies scored six unanswered runs to take a 7-1 lead and take game two of the doubleheader.
The Tigers will face, Southern Nazarene in a four game series at Sully Anderson Field beginning at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 2.
