Bulldogs take two from Tigers despite complete games from Eller and Matros

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Despite leading the Great American Conference with a .318 team batting average, the Ouachita Tigers were held to a total of nine hits and zero runs in two games on Friday. The Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs took both games of the doubleheader, defeating the Tigers 3-0 and 1-0.

SWOSU (16-18, 10-11 GAC) held the Tigers hitless through the first four innings of the first game. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single. Southwestern then added one run in the seventh and one in the eighth to extend its lead to 3-0.

In the top of the ninth, Will Wallace led off the inning with a single through the right side to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. After a double play, Matt Sinclair hit a two-out single, but a groundout ended the game with the Bulldogs ahead 3-0.

Despite pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts, Connor Eller (6-1) was handed his first loss of the season.

In the second game, Ouachita recorded two hits in the top of the third inning, but with runners on the corners, SWOSU forced a groundout to escape the half-inning. Southwestern then took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth after a single, a sacrifice bunt and a double to left center allowed the Bulldogs to score.

Ouachita was then held to two hits and no runs over the next three innings, as the Bulldogs claimed both games of the doubleheader.

John Franklin Matros (4-2) went the distance on the mound for the Tigers but was handed the loss. Matros allowed three hits over six innings of work while striking out three batters.

Wallace failed to record a hit in the second game, ending his streak at 14 games. The streak is tied with Parker Norris, who did so in 2014, for the longest by a Ouachita Tiger since 2011 (Brett Mazmanian, 17).

The Tigers (17-12, 10-5 GAC) are currently first in the GAC standings. The Tigers will take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in the final game of the series on Saturday. First pitch is a noon.
