Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Back-to-back home runs from
Kate Lacina and
Macy Nantz gave the Ouachita Tigers a 10-2 victory over the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm on Friday. The Tigers lost the second game, however, 4-2, and SNU claimed the series, 3-1.
The Tigers took an early lead in the first game, as Lacina picked up an RBI on a single up the middle.
Kelly Powell, who led off the bottom of the first with a single, scored on the play to put the Tigers ahead 1-0.
Ouachita then built on its lead with a six-run third inning that featured only three hits.
Kailey Madden led off the half-inning with a bunt single, and
Sarah Johnson put two runners in scoring position with a double to left center field. Lacina added her second RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Madden, and Johnson later scored on a passed ball.
Suzie Gresham and
Emily Acuna then hit two consecutive sacrifice bunts, in which no outs were recorded and two runs scored.
Olivia Guin followed with a two-run double to give Ouachita a 7-0 lead.
Southern Nazarene (14-19, 10-13 GAC) scored a run in each of the next two innings but were held scoreless in the top of the sixth. With three runs needed to end the game in the bottom of the sixth, Johnson led off with a single. Lacina then homered over the center field wall, and Nantz immediately followed with a home run of her own to end the game.
Delaney Bedunah (5-2) earned the win for the Tigers, pitching a complete game while allowing eight hits and two runs. Powell, Johnson, Lacina and Nantz all recorded two hits in the game, and Lacina led the team with four runs batted in.
In game two, the Tigers were held hitless until the fourth inning. After SNU took a 4-0 lead, Nantz hit her second home run of the day to put the Tigers on the scoreboard. Acuna singled later in the inning, which allowed Gresham to score after reaching first base on an error. Ouachita posted two runs in the inning to bring the score to 4-2.
The Crimson Storm held the Tigers to only one hit after the fourth inning and eventually won the game 4-2.
Jade Sones (1-6) was handed the loss for Ouachita despite pitching all seven innings.
The Tigers (10-20, 6-15 GAC) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 7, as they travel across the street to take on Henderson State University. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
