ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Due to rain in the extended forecast, Ouachita baseball's final home series of the 2016 season has been pushed back to Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers will host Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, April 23, at noon and 3 p.m., and finish the series on Sunday, April 24, with a nine-inning contest scheduled for noon.
Ouachita's 10 seniors will also be honored during the series, beginning with a senior-recognition ceremony at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday before the first game.
SNU (7-34, 5-22 GAC) currently sits in 12th place in the Great American Conference, with Ouachita (12-30, 8-19 GAC) three games ahead. The Tigers are just two games out of eighth place, the final spot in the GAC Tournament, with six conference games remaining.
Ryan Hammer and Justin Weigle lead the Tigers offensively, both maintaining a batting average of at least .300. Will Wallace, who currently ranks fourth all-time in Ouachita baseball history with 176 hits, follows with a .287 average.
Preston Speers has reached base in seven consecutive games, including three home runs in the past five games. Speers has also driven in eight runs during the five-game stretch, giving him a total of 22 runs batted in on the season, one behind Weigle for the team high.
Connor Eller leads Ouachita's pitching staff with 81.1 innings, four wins, four complete games and 80 strikeouts. In just two seasons with the Tigers, Eller ranks fourth all-time in career innings pitched and second all-time in career complete games.
