ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' softball team (6-6) will look to rebound this weekend as they open their Great American Conference season with a home series against Southern Nazarene (2-6).
The Tigers head into the series coming off of a 3-5 showing last week. The Tigers opened the week with a doubleheader win over Williams Baptist. The Tigers won the first game by a score of 4-0 and the second game by a score of 4-3.
Daniella Brantley had two RBI on the day, including a walk-off double in the second game. The Tigers moved from the doubleheader against Williams into the 8-State Classic, where they accumulated a record of 1-5. Their sole win was a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa, where two home runs propelled the Tigers to victory.
Several Tigers will be looking to carry their strong season performances into this weekend. One of those Tigers is
Daniella Brantley. Brantley, a senior, has a .364 batting average, has hit two home runs and accumulated seven RBI this season to lead the Tigers from the plate. Also performing well offensively has been
Natalie Jackson. Jackson leads the team with a .370 batting average. With a continuation of strong performances from the plate by these two and many more players, the Tigers can look to perform well this upcoming weekend.
Ouachita has not only had star performers from the plate thus far this season, but has also had good performances from the pitching mound. The Tigers did not allow more than three runs in seven of their eight games this past week.
Marissa Butler leads all pitchers for the Tigers with a 2-1 record and a 0.98 earned run average.
The Crimson Storm have a 2-6 record, but are coming off of a win over Northwest Missouri State in their last game. Mahina Sauer leads the Storm with six RBI's and a .217 batting average, while Katelyn Brown leads the Storm from the mound with a 1-2 record and a 3.86 earned run average.
The Tigers will open play against the Crimson Storm on Friday afternoon with games at 2 and 4 p.m. Play will continue on Saturday with games at 12 and 2 p.m.
