Preview: Tigers collide in Ada this weekend

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team travels to Ada, Okla. this weekend for a three-game series versus the Tigers of East Central University. Ouachita (5-18, 3-9) will look to end a nine game losing streak that began on March 1. East Central (7-13, 6-6) started the season with seven straight losses but has since gone 7-6. The series opens on Friday, March 17, with a single game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The series concludes with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, March 18.

Players to Watch

Ouachita's Kyle Alexander has now hit safely in 16 straight games. The junior catcher from Conway, Ark. has recorded a hit in 17 of 18 games. He currently ranks second in the GAC with a .409 average. Since March 6, shortstop Justin Weigle has gone 10-23 at the plate, raising his average nearly 40 points. In that span, he's scored five runs, driven in four and hit two home runs. Outfielder Ryan Hammer has hit in six straight games and has multiple hits in five of those. He's raised his average from .245 to .310. Ty Owens has hit safely in seven of the last nine games. He currently leads the team with 28 hits, tied for 8th best in the GAC.

For East Central, Jake MeKeel and Connor Stevenson lead the way for the offense. MeKeel is hitting .400 and leads the team in hits, doubles and runs scored. Stevenson is batting .348 and leads ECU with 21 RBI, five home runs and a .636 slugging percentage. Starter Brandon Dusenberry leads ECU with a record of 3-2 in seven starts. He's stuck out 35 batters and has an ERA of 3.86.
