Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. – The Ouachita Tigers softball team split a pair of games on Monday afternoon against Southern Nazarene 4-5 and 5-3.
The win gave Ouachita head softball coach
Mike McGhee his 300
th career victory at Ouachita. The victory also insured that the Tigers stayed in a tie for second in the Great American Conference Standings.
The Tigers offense pounded out 9 runs on 19 hits in Monday's double-header spilt against the Crimson Storm.
Game ONE: Ouachita 4, SNU 5
The first three innings of the contest were scoreless between Southern Nazarene and Ouachita on Monday afternoon.
Ouachita threatened in the top of the fourth inning,
Gabby Gonzalez's (Alice, Texas) hit a leadoff double to start the inning off. Tobi Finley (Sheridan, Ark.) then singled to right field to put runners at the corner for the Tigers.
Page Purifoy (Farmington, Ark.) then lined out to right field and Finley was doubled up at first on the play.
Kelly Powell (Flower Mound, Texas) flew out to right field to end the inning and the scoring threat for the Tigers.
The Crimson Storm got on the board first with a solo homerun by Sydni Toilolo in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Tiger bats came alive in the top of the sixth inning as
Madison Crosby (Sheridan, Ark.) hit a 2-RBI double to left field to give Ouachita a 2-1 lead. Powell hit a 2-run homer to right field to give the Tigers a 3-run cushion.
Caitlyn Curlee gave the Crimson Storm the lead on one swing as she drilled a grand slam to left field to give the Crimson Storm a 5-4 advantage. The Tigers went down in order in the top of the seventh inning.
Finley went 3-for-3 in the game to lead the Tigers offense.
Marissa Butler (Plano, Texas) picked up her second loss of the season.
Game TWO: Ouachita 5, SNU 3
The Southern Nazarene offense left off where they started in the first game. Mahina Sauer homered to left field to give the Crimson Storm the early advantage.
The Tigers offense grabbed the lead in the top of the third inning.
Sarah Johnson (Mount Vernon, Texas) had an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1. Gonzalez then singled up the middle and Sloane Precure (Canyon, Texas) scored on an error by the center fielder to give the Tigers the lead.
Curlee came up in the bottom of the third and gave the Crimson Storm the lead back with a 2-RBI double to right centerfield.
Southern Nazarene did not hold the lead for long though as Johnson homered to right centerfield to tie the game at 3. Cassie Cantu hit a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning to solidify the Tigers lead.
Johnson was the top hitter for the Tigers in game number two, she went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2-RBI's.
Sarah Chamberlain (Shreveport, La.) picked up her third victory of the season after pitching her second consecutive complete game.
The Ouachita softball team will be back in action on March 2
nd against Arkansas Tech University. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Sully Anderson Field.
