Box Score 2 SEARCY, Ark. – The Ouachita softball team gave it their all on Sunday afternoon but came up just short to No. 17 Harding in a 6-5 and a 3-0 defeat.
Game One: Ouachita 5, Harding 6
Kelly Powell started out the contest with a single up the middle. Two batters later and
Sarah Johnson singled to right field to score Powell for the game's first run.
The Tigers got on the board again the top of the second inning when
Paige Purifoy hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, giving Ouachita a 2-0 lead.
The two squads traded runs in the bottom of the second and top of the third inning. Up 3-1 in the bottom of the third, the Tigers ran into a little bit of trouble as they gave up a game tying two-run home run.
Johnson drove in Powell for the second time in the contest in the top of the fifth. The run gave the Tigers the lead back once again.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Harding homered to left field to begin the inning. The homerun tied the game at 4.
Sloane Precure hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Tigers the advantage for a third time in the game. The lead did not last long though as Harding tied the game up once again. The Bison eventually won the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Johnson was the top offensive player in the game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's.
Game Two: Ouachita 0, Harding 3
The second game of the series turned into a pitchers dual between the two squads as the game was scoreless the first three and a half innings of play.
Harding scored on back-to-back hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to begin the scoring for either side. The Bison tacked on a run in sixth inning to give them the 3-0 advantage.
The Ouachita offense was only able to record five hits in the contest. Precure was the top hitter as she went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Tigers will be back at it tomorrow afternoon against the Bison at 1 p.m.
