Ouachita Blasts Their Way to Victory

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers baseball team drove in 16 runs off 20 hits to pick up a 16-2 run rule victory over East Central University on Friday afternoon.

It was the largest offensive output by Ouachita (9-16, 5-8 GAC) this season. The 16-2 victory was the largest on either side in series history. Coming into today's game Ouachita's largest margin of victory was a 14-3 win on February 14, 2014.

For the first time all season every Ouachita starter got a hit in the game. Six, Ouachita batters collected multi hit days in the run rule shortened contest. East Central (1-20, 0-13 GAC) will have to wait another day if they hope to break their 19 game losing streak.

Ouachita starting pitcher J.F. Matros (Arkadelphia, Ark.) got off to a shaky start in the first inning. East Central scored their only two runs in the opening frame, after the hiccup, Matros settled down and shutdown East Central the rest of the game.

Ouachita tied up the game in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single by Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) and a few batters later Alexander stole home on a called double steal by the Tigers bench.

The big lumber came out in the bottom of the third inning when Louis Steen (Southaven, Miss.) homered to lead off the inning. The solo shot gave Ouachita a 3-2 advantage and moments later Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a two-run advantage.

Ty Owens (El Dorado, Ark.) put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the third with a three-run homerun to left field. The homerun by Owens gave Ouachita a commanding 7-2 lead heading into the top of the fourth.

Ouachita's offense was not done in the bottom of the fifth the Tigers offense exploded for five more runs off four hits. By the end of the inning, the Tigers led 12-2 and they never looked back. Ouachita tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score 16 runs.

The game was called after the top of the seventh inning, when East Central was unable to score the required amount of runs to keep the contest alive.

Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) was one of many offensive stars for Ouachita on Friday afternoon. The senior first baseman went 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI's in the game. Matros picked up the complete game victory on the mound for Ouachita.
