Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist softball team dropped a pair of games to Southeastern Oklahoma State 5-3, 7-6 on Saturday afternoon at Sully Anderson Field.
Ouachita (12-15, 8-12 GAC) will have to wait another year to try to win a series against Southeastern Oklahoma State (21-12, 15-5 GAC). The Savage Storm have taken the series every year since the 2012 season.
Game One: Ouachita 3, Southeastern 5
Ouachita got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning.
Sarah Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score
Kelly Powell from third base. The Tigers did not hold onto the lead for long though as Southeastern tied the game up in the top of the second.
The score remained a 1-1 tie until the top of the sixth inning.
Marissa Butler came into pitch for Sarah Chamberlain with runners on second and third. Augusta Duty put down a perfectly placed bunt to score the run from third and gave the lead back to the Savage Storm.
Kennedy Salyers and Elexis Watson then put the finishing touches on a strong offensive inning for the Savage Storm.
Down 5-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Ouachita began a late rally to try to take the opening game. Tori Herbert doubled to left field to start the inning,
Paige Purifoy walked to put runners on first and second. Jordan Fielder was then hit by a pitch to load up the bases with no outs in the inning.
The Tigers appeared to be in great position as
Madison Crosby singled in a run to bring Ouachita within three runs. Powell then singled through the right side to bring in another run for the Tigers. Unfortunately, the Tigers ended the game with the bases loaded.
Game Two: Ouachita 6, Southeastern 7
The second game of the afternoon was an offensive showdown between the two offenses. The teams combined for 13 runs off 24 hits.
Southeastern lit up the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. The Savage Storm scored four runs off three hits to begin the game.
Ouachita answered the Savage Storm in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers hit five consecutive singles to begin the inning.
Gabby Gonzalez and Tobi Finley had RBI knocks for the Tigers in the inning.
Going into the top of the third inning the Savage Storm held a 4-3 advantage. Southeastern's catcher Sydnee Hinkle blasted a two-run bomb over the left field fence to give the Savage Storm a three-run cushion.
Ouachita began to chip away at the lead in the bottom half of innings five and six. Lexi Brooks hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring the Tigers within a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. One inning later, Gonzalez came through with a game tying two-RBI double to left centerfield.
Hinkle played hero for the Savage Storm in the top of the seventh inning. The catcher knocked in her fourth RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
The Tigers had a seventh inning rally fall short as Ouachita had a pair of runners stranded on the base paths to end the game.
Ouachita will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Union University.
