Tigers cannot Overcome Early Deficit

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Arkansas Tech scored early and often as they defeated the Ouachita Tigers 10-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Rab Rodgers field.

Arkansas Tech (18-11, 11-7 GAC) has now taken three consecutive series against Ouachita (10-21, 6-12 GAC) dating back to the 2015 season. The Wonder Boys are now 4-1 against the Tigers in their last five games.

Arkansas Tech cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning. Shane Pollard was hit by a pitch by Adam Bahloul (Maumelle, Ark.) with one out in the inning. Pollard then stole second to put the Wonder Boys in scoring position. Riley Hickerson hit an RBI single to left field to give Arkansas Tech the early 1-0 lead.

The Wonder Boys tacked onto their lead in the top of the second inning. Kyle Gibbs walked and reached second after a failed pick-off attempt by Bahloul. Jake Harvey had an RBI hit two batters later to bring in the Wonder Boys second run of the game.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) tripled down the right field line to put Ouachita in scoring position for the first time. Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score the Tigers first run of the contest.

Arkansas Tech's offense exploded in the top of the fifth inning as the Wonder Boys saw three runs come across the plate. The three-run outburst gave Arkansas Tech a 5-1 advantage going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Wonder Boy's offense was back at it again in the top of the sixth inning. Arkansas Tech scored a pair of runs, extending their lead to 7-1 over the Tigers.

Tyler Riebock (Rockwall, Texas) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning. It is the second time this season that the freshman has had a hitting streak of nine or more games.

Pollard hit a leadoff homerun to begin the top of the seventh inning. Mark Vaughn reached base on a one-out walk and came around to score on a Kyle Gibbs single.

Down 9-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, White hit a leadoff double to centerfield. White stole third base, but unfortunately, the Tigers could not cash in the run as White was left stranded.

Ty Owens (El Dorado, Ark.) leadoff the bottom of the eighth with a walk. Louis Steen (Southaven, Miss.) hit a single to left field to move Owens over to third base. Riebock hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Ouachita's second run of the game.

Cade McBride (Prosper, Texas) kept the inning alive with a one out single to centerfield. Speers then hit an RBI single to right field to score McBride. White kept the hits coming even after the Wonder Boys replaced their pitcher. White hit an RBI double to left field to pull the Tigers within five runs of Arkansas Tech.

Senior outfielder Victor Draijer (Heanstede, The Netherlands) hit a two-RBI single to left centerfield making the score 9-6 in Tech's favor.

Arkansas Tech scored on a very peculiar play in the top of the ninth inning. Cody Wescott flied out to centerfield but Steen's throw back into the infield was botched by a number of players and rolled out of play. The ball was declared dead and Hickerson was granted two bases and scored Tech's 10th run of the game.

The Tiger's ninth inning rally came up short as Ouachita left a runner in scoring position.

Ouachita's next game will be on the road on Friday afternoon as the Tigers travel to Southern Arkansas. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
