Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tiger baseball team lost a hard fought contest 3-1 to No. 24 Southern Arkansas on Friday night at Goodheart Field.
Ouachita (10-22, 6-13 GAC) is now 1-4 in two-run ball games this season. With the loss to Southern Arkansas (20-9, 14-5 GAC) Ouachita has now lost five straight games.
Friday night's matchup was a pitchers dual from the start as neither side was able to hit the other teams starter.
Southern Arkansas broke through in the bottom of the third inning against Ouachita starter J. F. Matros (Arkadelphia, Ark.). Jacob Richardson hit a two-run double down the left field line to give the Muleriders the early 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Southern Arkansas scored their third run of the contest via error from the Tigers shortstop.
With runners on first and second in the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers needed a timely hit to get back in the game.
Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield to score the Tigers first run of the night. The single also broke up Southern Arkansas' no hit bid.
Aaron Studdard (Denton, Texas) picked up the Tigers second hit of the night in the top of the ninth. The ninth inning rally fell short though as Louis Steen (Southaven, Miss.) struck out looking to end the game.
Matros picked up just his third loss of the season after pitching eight full innings. The senior gave up just one earned run and struck out five Muleriders in the process.
Ouachita and Southern Arkansas be back at it tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
