Box Score ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Tiger baseball team fell 9-0 to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday night.
The loss for Ouachita (10-30, 6-19 GAC) lost their 13
th straight game ironically on Friday the 13
th. Senior starting pitcher J. F. Matros (Arkadelphia, Ark.) has now tied the Great American Conference record for games started in a career with 48.
It was just the second shutout loss for the Tigers this season, their first came against Arkansas Tech on March 3
rd.
Jorin Van Amstel hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning, to begin the scoring for Northwestern Oklahoma State (18-22, 10-15 GAC).
The Rangers added runs in both the second and third innings to increase their lead to six runs. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rangers offense scored runs off a wild pitch and an error.
Logan Huneycutt came in to the game in the top of the sixth inning to relieve Matros. Judah Zickafoose took a 3-2 pitch and hit a solo shot over the right field wall. The solo shot gave Northwestern a 9-0 lead midway through the game.
Neither team scored the rest of the way as Northwestern Oklahoma State picked up their third shutout win of the season.
Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) was the top hitter for the Tigers offense going 2-for-4 in the game.
???????Matros was tabbed with his fourth loss of the season. The senior struck out four batters in five innings of work.
Ouachita and Northwestern Oklahoma State will square off again tomorrow afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
