Tigers Stun Reddies with Saturday afternoon Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Ouachita baseball team knows how to end a season, the Tigers defeated rival Henderson State 6-4 and 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Ouachita (15-35, 10-22 GAC) comes away with back-to-back series victories against Henderson State (29-18), for the first time since the 2013 and 2014 campaigns.

Game One: Ouachita 6, Henderson State 4
With one away in the top of the first inning, Victor Draijer (The Netherlands) drew a walk. Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) then singled to center in the next at bat to put a pair of runners on the base paths for the Tigers. Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) then came through with a two-out RBI single up the middle to put the Tigers on the scoreboard first.

Ouachita added a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Tee Collier (Bryant, Ark.) singled up the middle to begin the inning. One batter later and Chandler Blake (Frisco, Texas) moved Collier into scoring position with a single of his own. Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) laced an RBI single into left field, scoring Collier from second base. Alexander then smoked a pitch back up the middle to score Blake.

Already ahead 3-0 Ouachita's offense went into the top of the third inning hungry for more runs. Ty Owens (El Dorado, Ark.) drew a one out walk and then stole second to put a runner in scoring position for the Tigers. Collier then roped a single up the middle to extend the Tigers lead to four runs.

Henderson State got their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Caleb Carr walked to lead off the inning and Dylan McCain hit an RBI double to left center to bring in the run.

Ouachita tacked on a much-needed insurance run in the top of the fifth. Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) singled to left to begin the inning. A pair of batters later and Collier drew a two out walk. Aaron Studdard then came through with an RBI single to left field.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Reddies tried to get back in the game down 5-1. Carr and Nolan Ryan each had RBI hits in the inning as the Reddies closed within a pair of runs.

Howell added his second RBI of the game in top of the eighth inning and that concluded the scoring for Ouachita in the first game.

The Reddies ninth inning rally fell short despite Ryan coming through with an RBI single.

Adam Bahloul (Maumelle, Ark.) picked up his third win of the season. The junior pitcher went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Luke Scaggs pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game and came away with his second save of the season.

Howell, Draijer, Alexander and Collier each had multi-hit games for the Tigers in game one. Howell was the only Ouachita player to collect two or more RBI's in the contest.

Game Two: Ouachita 4, Henderson State 1
The Tigers offense got out to another hot start in the top of the first inning. Howell singled to left to begin the game. One out later and Howell stole second to give the Tigers a runner in scoring position. White came to the plate with two outs in the inning and tripled to right center field to bring in Ouachita's first run of game two.

In the top of the third inning, the Tigers added on to their lead. Alexander hit a two out solo homerun to left field. Owens added a solo shot of his own in the top of the fourth inning.

Ouachita took a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Brandon Pollock hit an RBI single back up the middle to giving the Reddies their lone run of the contest.

Alexander hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. The RBI gave the Tigers an insurance run going into the final frame of the contest.

Henderson State went three-up and three-down to close out the game and the Tigers came out with the series victory against the Reddies.

Tyler Duck (Flower Mound, Texas) pitched a complete game, allowing just one run off five hits. The sophomore also five strikeouts in the winning effort.

Alexander led the Tigers offense in game two going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the game.
