Boll Weevils Blitz Tigers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tiger baseball team lost both games on Sunday afternoon to No. 19 Arkansas-Monticello 18-5 and 4-2 at Rab Rodgers Field.

The loss is now the 11th straight for Ouachita (10-27, 6-17 GAC) as they will have to wait until Tuesday afternoon to try to break the streak against Southern Arkansas. Meanwhile, Arkansas-Monticello (26-9, 20-4 GAC) has started to distance themselves from the rest of the conference.

Game One: UAM 18, Ouachita 5
The Boll Weevils offense dropped a bomb on the Tigers defense, scoring eight runs off six hits. It was the second time this season that Ouachita allowed eight runs in an inning and the first since they faced off against Nebraska Kearney at the start of the season.

Arkansas-Monticello kept their foot on the pedal as they scored at least two runs between innings two through five.

Going into the bottom of the sixth inning Ouachita trailed 18-0. Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) kept his hitting streak alive with a single through the left side. Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) followed suit with a single of his own to put pair of runners on for the Tigers. A few batters later Ben Swanger (Forney, Texas) drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the Tigers first run of the game. The run also gave Swanger his first career RBI.

The Tigers offense made a valiant effort in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs off a single hit. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Tigers were run ruled in the opening game on Sunday afternoon.

Alexander paced the Tigers offense with a multi-hit game, but it was Victor Draijer (The Netherlands) who came through with the big hit and drove in two-RBI's in the contest.

Andres Rios led the Boll Weevils offense going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI's.

Adam Bahloul (Maumelle, Ark.) was tagged with the loss after giving up 7 earned runs in 0.2 innings of work.

Game Two: UAM 4, Ouachita 2
Arkansas-Monticello started the scoring in the top of the second inning. Jordan Johnson and Austin Brakebill each had RBI hits in the inning to give the Boll Weevils a 2-0 edge over the Tigers.

The Boll Weevils tacked on a run in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Brian Ray.

Ouachita began to cut into the Boll Weevils lead in the bottom of the third, when Louis Steen (Southaven, Miss.) scored on a wild pitch from third. The run cut the deficit to two runs as the Tigers seemed to be clicking on offense once again.

In the bottom of the fourth, Aaron Studdard (Denton, Texas) hit a sacrifice bunt back to the pitch and scored Draijer from third. The Tigers found themselves down 3-2 heading into the fifth inning.

Garrett Dodd hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Boll Weevils an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning.

Ouachita's rally in the bottom of the seventh inning came up short as Arkansas-Monticello completed the sweep.

Ouachita will host Southern Arkansas in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field. First pitch is slated for a 3 p.m. start time.
