Ouachita Baptist baseball defeated East Central 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Turner Field in Ada, Oklahoma.
Luke Scaggs went
7.1 innings with two hits and no runs allowed in the win.
Cole Kelly broke the scoreless tie in the third inning with an RBI single. With two out and runners at first and third, Kelly singled through the right side to plate
CW Schrader.
Scaggs held East Cental without a hit for 5.1 innings before a one-out single snapped the no-hitter bid. The senior ended his day with 7.1 innings pitched, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.Â
Ouachita added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. Kelly led off with a double and advanced to third on
Pierce Mitchum's bunt single. The Tiger first baseman scored when
Jaxon Chaney reached on an error.
Cooper Timmons came on in relief of Scaggs in the eighth, earning the save with 1.2 innings of relief. The sophomore righty held ECU scoreless with two strikeouts while allowing just one baserunner.
