ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team picked up its first two wins of the 2022 season on Tuesday at home, sweeping Central Baptist College by scores of 4-1 and 12-4.
In the first game, the Tigers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the second inning with the ball never leaving the infield. Hope Waid had an RBI infield hit, Jessalyn Ahrens drove in Kyndal Moyer on a fielder's choice, Waid scored on a wild pitch, and Reagann Harper had the final RBI with another infield single.
Madison Miller (1-2) earned the complete game, giving up one run off four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Her one run given up was unearned due to a pair of Tiger fielding errors in the top of the seventh inning.
In the nightcap, the Tigers won in a run-ruled shortened game, thanks in part to an eight-run second inning. Ouachita sent 13 batters to the plate in the rally, highlighted by three two-run hits. Waid drove in two on single to right, Ahrens drove in two on a single up the middle, and Callie Jourdan later drove in two on a single to right. Also in the inning, Tuesday Melton earned her first career RBI.
Melton (1-2) also earned the win in relief, keeping the Mustangs scoreless on just three hits in the final 1.2 innings.
Offensively, the Tigers were led by four players with two hits in the win. Waid went 2-for-4, Heather Brown went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, Ahrens went 2-for-4, and Jourdan went 2-for-3.
The Tigers are back in action this weekend at home, co-hosting another tournament with cross-street rival Henderson State. Ouachita plays two games on Saturday, and one game on Sunday.
