ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team concluded its season-opening weekend on Sunday at home with a 4-0 loss to Southwest Baptist and a 3-0 loss to Northeastern State on the second day of the Ronnie Hawkins-Mike McGhee Memorial Invitational.
In the first game, all four SBU runs came late with one run in the sixth and three more in the seventh, all unearned runs due to errors committed earlier in each inning. Ouachita ended up with four hits.
Callie Jourdan went 2-for-3.
Tuesday Melton had a good debut for the Tigers despite the loss, giving up one unearned run in the first 5.2 innings with six strikeouts.
In the second game, Northeastern State scored three runs off nine hits, while limiting the Tigers to just two hits.
Tally Turnbow and
Heather Brown each had one hit in the loss.
The Tigers head to the Lone Star state next weekend to play four games in Portland, Texas.
