WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team opened its weekend road series against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday by splitting with the Bulldogs – winning the first game 11-6 and losing the second game 9-4.
In the first game, Ouachita hit the double-digit mark in runs for the third time this season, and hit double-digits in hits for the fifth time. The Tigers ended up with 13 hits in the win, the second-highest single game total of the year.
The Tigers batted through the lineup in the second inning of the first game, plating seven runs on six hits, five coming on RBI singles and the other two coming off wild pitches. Ouachita added another run in the third on a double steal, and two more in the fourth on RBI singles by
Madison Miller and
Lacy Ornelas. The Tigers scored their final run of the game on an RBI single by
Tuesday Melton in the seventh inning.
Lauren Lester went 3-for-3 with a pair of walks in the game.
Jillian Jones, Miller, and Melton all had two hits in the win.
In the second game, SWOSU rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to erase its one-run deficit heading into the inning leading to the double header split.
Ouachita scored its runs by plating one in each of the first four innings.
Lacy Ornelas and
Emma Mayes each had two hits in the loss. The Tigers were limited to just six hits in the game.
The series wraps up on Saturday with a single game starting at 11 a.m. in Weatherford.
