ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team used a combined 24 hits to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State twice on Friday at home by final scores of 4-3 and 10-7.
The Tigers (10-19, 6-10 GAC) had 12 hits in each win for the seventh and eighth multi-hit games of the year. Ouachita's 10 runs in game two marks the fourth double-digit runs performance of the year.
In game one, Ouachita's 12th hit came at a clutch moment in the bottom of the seventh. Down by two runs with two outs and the bases loaded,
Tally Turnbow hit the first pitch she saw to the fence in right center to score all three runs, including the game-winning run in
Kyndal Moyer from first base. Moyer, also a member of Ouachita's cross country and track and field teams, was available to pinch run late in the game for a change after normally being in the starting lineup.
Ouachita took advantage of a NWOSU wild pitch to score its first run in the fifth inning.
Turnbow finished the game 3-for-4, including her game-winning three-run doubles.
Madison Miller, who also struck out nine and earned the complete game win in the circle, went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Jessalyn Ahrens went 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, Ouachita scored all of its runs early with crooked numbers in each of the first three innings, highlighted by a five-run second inning. NWOSU held the Tigers scoreless in the final three innings, allowing just three Tigers hits during that span.
Madison Miller continued her all-around productive day, going 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate, and also earning the save in the circle after holding the Ouachita lead in the final three innings. It was her first save of the season.
Nikki Schneider earned the win after tossing the first four innings while Ouachita built its big lead.
Other multi-hit performances in game two included
Emma Mayes (2-for-4),
Erin Williams (2-for-4), and
Jillian Jones (2-for-3).
The Tigers go for the sweep on Saturday in game three, starting at 11 a.m. at Sully Anderson Field.
