ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team wrapped up its weekend series against Arkansas Tech on Saturday with a pair of losses by final scores of 5-1 and 7-2.
After giving up four runs in the top of the first inning of game one, the Tigers settled in in pitching and defense with only one run allowed in the final six innings. In 6.2 innings of relief, Tuesday Melton gave up just one run on four hits.
The lone run for the Tigers (10-23, 6-14 GAC) came in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from Heather Brown.
Ouachita had five hits in the loss, scattered among Brown, Hope Waid, Erin Williams, Jillian Jones, and Tally Turnbow.
In the second game, Madison Miller posted a quality start, giving up just one hit in the first five innings. She ended up allowing just two earned runs with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
Ouachita outhit Tech (24-14, 14-6 GAC) 8-6 in the second game, with a pair of Tigers posted multi-hit games. Lauren Lester and Lacy Ornelas each went 2-for-3 in the game. Jessalyn Ahrens was responsible for both of Ouachita's runs with an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, heading across the street for game three of their GAC series against Henderson State. Ouachita won the first two games at home on March 9 by scores of 5-1 and 11-7.
