ADA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team finished off its second Great American Conference series sweep of the 2022 season with a 9-1 road win over East Central.
The sweep puts the Tigers (17-26, 13-17 GAC) in good position for a berth into the GAC championship tournament coming up May 5-7 in Bentonville. Ouachita is sitting in seventh place heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
In Saturday's win over ECU (12-29, 10-20 GAC), Ouachita struck first with a bases-loaded walk by
Erin Williams in the top of the first inning.
The purple-and-white Tigers never trailed from that point, adding two in the second on a RBI double by
Heather Brown and an RBI single by
Jessalyn Ahrens, one in the third on an RBI single from
Tally Turnbow, and five in the fifth, highlighted by a three-run double by Brown.
Nikki Schneider (5-10) tossed her sixth complete game of the season, giving up just one run on seven hits. She threw five scoreless innings.
The Tigers close out the regular season next Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 on the road against Southern Nazarene for a three-game GAC series.
