ALLEN EARNS SECOND GAC WEEKLY HONOR

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – For the second time this season, Ouachita Baptist University baseball player G. Allen has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week.

Posting similar numbers from his previous conference honor, Allen slugged over one thousand and hit the double-digit mark in runs driven in. In four games over the week, the Little Rock native went 10-for-18 at the plate (.556 batting average) with three doubles, two homeruns, 13 runs batted in, a slugging percentage of 1.056, and an on-base percentage of .600.

Allen started the week with a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 9-6 loss to Henderson State at home on Tuesday in a non-conference game.

Over the weekend, Allen helped the Tigers (27-18, 19-11 GAC) secure their seventh conference series win of the season and third series sweep with 11-1, 10-4, and 3-1 wins over East Central at home.

In the opener, Allen hit three doubles and totaled four RBI, including a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning that put the Tigers up by their final margin to end the game with a run-rule victory.

Allen hit his second homerun of the week (12th of the season) in game two, this time a three-run shot off the scoreboard in right center.

To wrap up the week, Allen once again came through with a clutch hit, putting the Tigers up by their final 3-1 margin with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning of the scheduled seven-inning game. Ouachita kept ECU scoreless in the seventh to earn the come-from-behind win.

Allen and the Tigers close out the regular season this week with a non-conference double header at home against Harding on Tuesday before heading across the street to face Henderson State in a three-game GAC series on Friday and Saturday. Ouachita has already clinched a berth into the conference championship tournament to be held May 7-10 in Hot Springs, and can finish as high as second place with a sweep over HSU.
