ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team heads into the final weekend of the regular season in search of its first 30-win season since 2012.
Ouachita heads across the street this weekend for a three-game Great American Conference series against rival Henderson State. The series schedule has been changed due to rain in the forecast for late Saturday. The double-header will now be played on Friday starting at 3 p.m. The series finale is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. HSU is providing live statistics and live video for all three games. The Tigers currently sport an overall record of 29-18 and a 19-11 mark in GAC games. The conference win total is the highest in program history since joining the NCAA in 1994. The 2007 Tiger team held the previous record with a 18-3 mark to win the Gulf South Conference Western Division that year.
Ouachita has already clinched a spot into the upcoming GAC Championship Tournament (May 7-10 in Hot Springs), but with a sweep over HSU this weekend, the Tigers could finish the year as the league's regular season runner-up.
Beating HSU has proven to be a tough task this year. HSU is 33-13 overall and 21-9 in GAC games. The Tigers and Reddies have met twice already in non-conference matchups. HSU beat Ouachita in the season opener 4-0 at Clyde Berry Field, and rallied in the ninth inning to beat the Tigers 9-6 on April 19 at Rab Rodgers Field.
