TIGERS FINISH OFF UAM FOR FIRST GAC SWEEP

MONTICELLO, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team recorded its first Great American Conference series sweep of the season with two road wins over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday by final scores of 5-3 and 6-4. The Tigers beat UAM in game one on Friday by a final score of 4-2.

Tuesday Melton (2-4) highlighted Ouachita's first win of the day with her first career complete game pitching effort, giving up just three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work, including six scoreless frames. UAM scored all three of its runs in the final inning.

The Tigers (13-24, 9-15 GAC) scored one run in each of the first two innings, and gave themselves three cushion runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run single by Jillian Jones.

Ouachita outhit the Blossoms (16-24, 10-13 GAC) 8-5 in the first game, featuring two-hit performances by Jones and Lauren Lester.

Tally Turnbow got things started in the series finale with her first career homerun, a solo shot in the top of the second inning.

The rest of Ouachita's scoring in the game came in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Callie Jourdan, Jones, Hope Waid, and Heather Brown.

Nikki Schneider (4-9) earned the win in the circle with two earned runs allowed in four innings of work. Madison Miller earned her second save of the year, holding UAM to just one run in the final three innings.

The Tigers are set for their final non-conference games of the season this Tuesday, April 12 on the road against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
