ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team started its season off right, winning 6-3 over Christian Brothers University in the McGhee-Hawkins Invitational.
Heather Brown went 3-for-4 with three RBI in today's season opener. Brown's RBI came off a three-run inside the park home run she hit down the left field line.
Erin Williams went 2-for-4 with a double, and
Maggi Huddleston went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks.
Tuesday Melton went the distance in the circle, pitching a complete game, striking out six batters and walking three. Melton gave up just six hits and two earned runs to earn herself the first win of the season.
This afternoon's game was played at Henderson State's Dee White Field due to wet field conditions at Sully Anderson
Christian Brothers scored first, taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning. But Ouachita responded in the second with a three-run inside the park home run from
Heather Brown. Ouachita followed this up with another run in the third off a
Jessalyn Ahrens single that scored
Lauren Lester. CBU added a second run in the fourth inning that the Tigers quickly answered to with two runs from a single from
Maggi Huddleston. CBU plated one more run in the sixth, but it would not be enough and the Tigers would cruise to a 6-3 win in the season opener.
The Tigers will continue with McGhee-Hawkins invitational play with two games tomorrow. The first game will be against Northeastern State at noon and the second game will be against Missouri Southern State at 2:30 back at Sully Anderson Field.
