SAVAGE STORM TAKES DOUBLE HEADER FROM TIGERS

DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped its double header games to Southeastern Oklahoma State University 1-0 in eight innings in game one and 8-1 in game two.

Game One: Southeastern 1, Ouachita 0 (Eight Innings)

The first game of the day was the definition of a pitchers' duel, but it started with Hope Waid leading off the game with a double to right field, but that was it for Tigers on the bases in the first inning. The Storm got a hit of their own in the bottom of the first but that was all. Maggi Huddleston doubled to left center to lead off the top of the second, but was also stranded at second. Southeastern got a baserunner in the bottom of the second, but she was thrown out at second by Erin Williams and Madyson Shoebottom on an attempted steal. Jessalyn Ahrens led off the top of the third with a single and was able to make it to second base thanks to a Waid sacrifice bunt. Callie Jourdan was hit by a pitch, but her and Ahrens were left stranded and first and second.

In the fourth, Huddleston led off with a single, but was left at first. Southeastern had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but a double play from Ahrens at third to Lacy Ornelas at second got the Tigers out of the jam. SOSU threatened with two baserunners again in the fifth, but a strikeout from Tuesday Melton and a groundout ended the chances for the Storm. The Tigers were unable to get a baserunner from the fifth to eighth innings, but were able to hold the Storm to a 0-0 tie after the seventh inning to send it to extras. However, the Storm walked it off on an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to win 1-0 over Ouachita.

Game Two: Southeastern 8, Ouachita 1

Game two started with Erin Williams getting on base with a two-out single, but that was all for the Tigers in the first. Southeastern scored one in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. After forcing Ouachita down in order in the top half of the inning, the Storm added to their lead by plating four runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it 5-0 Storm. Both teams were held hitless in the third inning.

The Tigers got on the board in the top of the fourth. Erin Williams hit a one-out double and moved to third on a fielder's choice from Madyson Shoebottom. Williams scored on a Hannah Hunter groundout to make the score 5-1 in favor of SOSU. Ouachita held Southeastern hitless in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Tigers were also held hitless in the fifth and sixth innings. The Savage Storm added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-1 Southeastern. Ouachita was unable to score in the seventh and SOSU won game two 8-1, securing the series for the Storm.

  • Erin Williams went 2-for-2 with a run scored, a double and a walk.
  • Starting pitcher Maggi Huddleston was on the hook for the loss after allowing four runs in one inning of work.
  • Kodee Batchelor came in to handle the final two outs. She struck out two and allowed one run in 0.2 innings.

The Tigers will look to bounce back in the series finale tomorrow, Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Durant.
