ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team fell to the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello in both games of a double header played at Sully Anderson Field Saturday afternoon.
Game One: UAM 18, Ouachita 2

Erin Williams to put the Tigers up 2-0 heading into the second inning. UAM plated one in the second inning and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead. The Blossoms scored 10 runs in the fourth and five in the fifth inning to bring out the final score of 18-2 in five innings.
Game Two: UAM 4, Ouachita 2
The second game of the day started out as a true pitchers' duel as both starters had no-hitters that lasted until the fifth inning. Monticello got a few runners on in the first off of a pair of walks, but they ended up stranded. After the top of the first, there was not another baserunner until the bottom of the third when
Jessalyn Ahrens reached on an error by the shortstop. The fourth inning again saw perfect halves for both teams.
Things changed in the fifth. UAM got the first hit of the day on a single to the left side, but that was it for the Blossoms in that inning. The Tigers offense woke up in the bottom half of the inning.
Lacy Ornelas walked, and
Lauren Lester was hit by the pitch to put two on with one out.
Callie Jourdan reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. The Tiger finally got their first hit of the game and broke the scoreless tie as
Jessalyn Ahrens singled up the middle to score
Emma McCorkle to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Hope Waid was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Lester and the Tigers went up 2-0 heading to the sixth inning. The Blossoms proceeded to plate four runs in the top of the sixth inning and held that lead through the end of the game.
- Hope Waid and Jessalyn Ahrens both went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the contest.
- Kalia Kekahuna-Fernadez and Maggi Huddleston both recorded a hit in the game.
- Game two's starter, Huddleston gave up just one earned run and four hits but was on the hook for the loss.
The Tigers will look to bounce back and avoid the sweep tomorrow in the final game of the series against the Cotton Blossoms at Sully Anderson Field.
