TIGERS FALL TO UNION IN DOUBLEHEADER

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped its two double header games against the Union University Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon at Sully Anderson Field.

Game 1: Union 3, Ouachita 0

The Tigers fell in what was a much lower scoring affair than the first game between these two teams back in February when Union won 18-15 in Jackson, Tennessee.

The first two innings were scoreless for both Ouachita and Union. Both teams managed to get baserunners in those innings, but could not bring them around. This changed in the top of the third when all the game's scoring occurred. Union plated three runs on a fielder's choice, a single and an error to take the 3-0 lead.

From the third inning on, it was mostly zeroes on the board for both the Tigers and Bulldogs. There were only three hits combined between the two teams from the fourth through seventh innings and Union held on to win 3-0 in the first game on the day.

Game Two: Union 7, Ouachita 1

Game two started with both teams going scoreless in the first. Union then scored four run in the top of the second. The Tigers were able to get one of those runs back as Kennedy Wilkie scored due to a fielding error on a ball hit by Rebecca Holiman to make it a 4-1 game after two innings. Both teams went scoreless in the third, but Union plated three runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The Bulldogs held that lead until the end as both teams did not score a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and Union won 7-1 in game two.
  • Tiffany Backeberg and Madyson Shoebottom had the only hits in the game with one each.
  • Hope Waid was hit by pitches twice in the game.
  • Starting pitcher Maggi Huddleston was credited with the loss after pitching four innings and giving up seven runs, five of them earned.
  • Hannah Hunter pitched three innings in relief, allowing just a single hit, striking out two and walking one.

Ouachita will look to get back on track this weekend as they travel to Russellville, Arkansas to take on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech in a three-game, conference series starting on Friday, March 10.
