SHAWNEE,
Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team fell to the no. 22 Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University in both games of a Great American Conference double header Saturday afternoon in Shawnee.
Game one: Oklahoma Baptist 2, Ouachita 1
In what could only be considered as a pitchers' duel, the Tigers were able to strike quick and early.
Hope Waid led the game off with a single to center field.
Erin Williams was hit by a pitch to move Waid into scoring position with one out. With two outs,
Callie Jourdan singled to center field and brought Waid home to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
After the early scores, it was zeroes across the board until the sixth inning. The Tigers defense and pitcher
Hannah Hunter were able to work their way out of more than one jam over the course of the game; the Bison had the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, but a groudout to
Lauren Lester at first kept OKB off the scoreboard. Ouachita was able to put together a few hits and baserunners, but were unable to bring them around home. The Tigers held the Bison to just two hits through the fifth inning, but the sixth inning saw OKB plate two runs to break up the shutout and take its first lead of the game. The no. 22 Bison held on to win game two 2-1.
Game Two: Oklahoma Baptist 9, Ouachita 0
Game two saw the Bison start off by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Tigers were able to get a runner into scoring position in the top of the second but could not bring them home. The Bison tacked on seven more runs in the bottom of the third to take a nine-run lead over Ouachita. Ouachita was held scoreless throughout the five innings and the nationally ranked OKB won game three of the series 9-0.
- Erin Williams went 1-for-2 at the plate, recording the only hit for the Tigers in the game.
- Starter Tuesday Melton pitched the first three innings of the game and earned the loss.
- Maggi Huddleston came in and pitched one inning in relief, striking out one.
The Tigers will look to get back on track next weekend as they host the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene in a three-game GAC series beginning Friday April 21 at Sully Anderson Field. Senior day will take place during Saturday's games.
