TUSCON, Arizona – Just two days after securing its second straight 30-win season, the Ouachita Baptist University baseball team has cracked into the national rankings by earning a tie for the No. 30 spot in this week's Collegiate Baseball D2 Poll.
It's the first time since the late 2000s that the Tigers have posted back-to-back 30-win seasons. Ouachita reached the mark in four straight seasons from 2006-09, which included a pair of 50-win teams and a national runner up finish in 2008. The Tigers were nationally-ranked for more than 30 weeks during that tenure, but haven't been able to get past the receiving votes category since.
Ouachita sits at 30-11 overall and 19-8 in Great American Conference games heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. The squad has won seven of its nine GAC series this season, and is one of only three teams to have already punched its ticket into the postseason, joining Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Tech with spots earned for the GAC tournament.
The Tigers join No. 6 Southern Arkansas in this week's poll representing the GAC. Both teams carry the same overall record of 30-11, but the Muleriders currently hold a three game-lead over Ouachita for the top spot in the GAC standings.
No. 30 Ouachita is back in action on Tuesday at home in a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Arkansas at Monticello. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
