TIGERS DROP OPENING GAMES OF RAISING CANE'S FESTIVAL

EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team dropped its games against Washburn 9-0 and Nebraska-Kearney 9-4 to open play at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival on Friday.

Game one: (RV) Washburn 9, Ouachita 0

Ouachita's opening game of the Raising Cane's Softball Festival saw the Ichabods of Washburn University strike first with an RBI single in the first. The Tigers looked primed to answer, getting a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first inning off an Erin Williams double, but could not even the score. Washburn plated five runs in the top of the second to take a 6-0 lead.

Katelyn Provence singled to lead off the bottom of the third, but only made it as far as second before getting out on a fielder's choice. The Ichabods scored another three runs in the top of the fourth to go up by nine. Ouachita got a runner on base in the bottom of the fifth, but they would be left stranded, and the Tigers fell 9-0.

Williams and Provence recorded the only hits of the game, both going 1-for-2.
Emma Scales and Bailey King each earned a walk.
Hannah Hunter started in the circle and earned the loss for the game after giving up four earned runs.

Game two: Neb-Kearney 9, Ouachita 4

The second game of the tournament got off to a better start for Ouachita with two walks and a single in the top of the first. All three runners were left on the bases, but the Tigers held the Lopers to a scoreless frame too. The offense came alive for the Tigers in the second inning as four runs were scored. Olivia See came home on a sacrifice fly from Maggi Huddleston to put Ouachita on the board 1-0. With two outs, Provence and King walked, and Erin Williams hit a single through the left side to load the bases. A wild pitched scored Provence and a two-RBI single from Remington Adams scored King and Williams to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

The Tiger lead was short lived, as UNK quickly answered back with four runs of its own in the bottom of the second to tie things up 4-4. The Lopers added three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 7-4. Neb-Kearney added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-4 lead over Ouachita. The Tigers got runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings but could not bring them home and Ouachita dropped the second game of the day 9-4.

Williams went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
Adams went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Provence went 1-for-2, scoring a run and working two walks.
Maggi Huddleston pitched 3.2 innings in relief for the Tigers, striking out three but earning the loss.
