WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team opened Great American Conference play by dropping its doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon.
Game One: SWOSU 7, Ouachita 1
The first game of the day started well with Ouachita getting two hits in the top of the first on back-to-back singles from
Erin Williams and
Remington Adams.
Hannah Hunter struck out two Bulldogs in a perfect bottom of the first. Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Southwestern Oklahoma struck first with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. SWOSU added two more runs in the fourth inning to push its lead to 3-0.
The Tigers' lone run came in top of the fifth on an RBI single from Williams that scored
Katelyn Provence from second to cut the lead to 3-1. SWOSU put together a four-run sixth inning to push its lead to six. Ouachita was unable to answer, and the Tigers fell to the Bulldogs by the final score of 7-1.
Williams led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Four other Tigers tallied hits in the loss.
Hannah Hunter pitched a complete game, striking out three and walking zero in the loss.
Game Two: SWOSU 8, Ouachita 0
In the second game of the day, Ouachita was held without a hit and had base runners reach twice in an 8-0 loss.
The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, February 24 in the final game of the series against the Bulldogs at noon in Weatherford.
