WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team dropped the third game of its GAC series against Southwestern Oklahoma State 10-2 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The final game of the three-game series between Ouachita and Southwestern Oklahoma started with the Tigers getting their lead-off batter on base via walk, but that would be all for the first inning. Ouachita held SWOSU off the bases in the bottom of the first to keep it at 0-0. The Bulldogs struck first with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
The Tigers answered back in the top of the third with an RBI double from
Katelyn Provence that scored
Jordyn Merrett from first to tie the game 1-1. SWOSU followed with a five-run third inning to put the Bulldogs on top 6-1.
Erin Williams led off the top of the fourth with a home run to left center to make the score 6-2. Southwestern plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to 9-2. Ouachita threatened in the top of the fifth but couldn't bring anyone home. SWOSU scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the run-rule and the Tigers fell by the score of 10-2.
Katelyn Provence went 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI double and a walk.
Erin Williams went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored on a solo home run.
Tuesday Melton came in to pitch in relief and took the loss.
The Tigers will look to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Monticello, Arkansas to take on the Cotton Blossoms of the University of Arkansas-Monticello in a three-game GAC series that starts Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
