MONTICELLO, Arkansas – The Ouachita softball dropped its GAC doubleheader to open the series against the Cotton Blossoms of the University of Arkansas-Monticello Friday afternoon.
Game One: UAM 7, Ouachita 4
In the first game of the afternoon, Arkansas-Monticello got off to a solid start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. The Tigers woke up in the third inning and an Erin Willaims RBI single scored Bailey King and
Hope Johnson to cut the deficit to just one run. The Blossoms added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2.
Both teams posted a scoreless fifth frame, but UAM was ready to go in the sixth, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning to push the score to 7-2. The Tigers did not want to go quietly however and as a two-run home run to left field from Johnson brought the game within three runs. But this would be all for the Tigers and they fell by the score of 7-4 in game one.
King and
Lauren Lester each recorded two hits to tie for the team lead in game one.
Johnson went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored, a homer, and a walk.
Hannah Hunter started the game for the Tigers, pitched five innings and struck out two in the loss.
Maggi Huddleston pitched one scoreless inning in relief, allowing just one hit.
Game Two: UAM 13, Ouachita 5
The Tigers started off hot in the second game of the series.
Baylee King got a one-out single and Erin Willaims followed it with a two-run homer to left field to put the Tigers on the board first.
Remington Adams then hit a double and was advanced to third by a single from
Tuesday Melton. Adams scored on a wild pitch to put Ouachita up 3-0 in the first. Ouachita added to their lead in the third inning on a solo home run from Adams to make the score 4-0.
UAM woke back up in the bottom of the third inning, scoring eight runs to take a four-run lead. The Tigers got a run back in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from
Katelyn Provence that scored Johnson from second base to make the score 8-5. The Blossoms scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth to bring about the final score of 13-5.
Adams went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
Williams went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Melton got the start in the circle for the Tigers and pitched 2.2 innings, earning the loss.
The Tigers will look to bounce back in the final game of the series against the Cottom Blossoms tomorrow, Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m. in Monticello.
