MONTICELLO, Arkansas – The Ouachita Softball team took down the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms by the score of 12-8 Saturday afternoon to earn the Tigers their first Great American Conference win of the season.
In the final game of the three-game GAC series, UAM again scored first, plating one run in the bottom of the opening frame. It was slow going for the next two innings as Ouachita and UAM were both held to a combined one hit and two walks before the Tiger offense woke up in the fourth.
Karley Burrow scored
Erin Williams on an RBI single to tie things up at 1-1. Burrow was later brought home on an RBI single from
Emma Scales to put the Tigers up 2-1. The Blossoms tied things back up in the bottom of the fourth and retook the lead 3-2 with one run in the fifth.
The floodgates opened in the top of the sixth, as the Tigers racked up 10 runs in the one inning. The first of the 10 runs scored when
Emily Reed came home on an RBI single from
Riley Gillis to tie the game 3-3, a few batters later,
Hope Johnson worked an RBI walk that scored
Avie Reams to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. A two-RBI single by
Katelyn Provence put the Tigers up by three. Williams worked an RBI walk to give Ouachita a 7-3 lead.
Remington Adams then hit a two-RBI double to put Ouachita up 9-3. Another RBI walk to
Tuesday Melton brought in Williams to give the Tigers a seven-run lead.
Lauren Lester hit an RBI single to make the score 11-3 and Provence worked the Tigers' fourth RBI walk to put Ouachita up 12-3.
The Blossoms answered back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 12-8. Ouachita held UAM hitless in the bottom of the seventh to secure the season's first conference win for the Tigers.
10 Tigers recorded hits in the win, with all 10 recording one hit each.
Provence led the team in RBI with three, two RBI came off a single and one came from a walk.
Adams was next on the team in RBI with two. Seven other Tigers recorded one RBI each.
Hope Johnson was walked three times in the seven-inning win; Williams and Provence each walked twice.
Hannah Hunter pitched 1.2 innings in relief and earned her first win of the season in the circle.
The Tigers will look to keep up the success on Tuesday, March 5 when they travel to Clinton, Mississippi to take on the No.13 Choctaws of Mississippi College in a doubleheader.
