RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita baseball team split a doubleheader on the road against Arkansas Tech on Sunday, losing game one 3-0 and coming back to win game two 5-4.
The 5-4 win helps the Tigers (10-10, 6-6 GAC) avoid being swept in the three-game series. Tech (14-10, 7-5 GAC) won game one of the series on Saturday 2-0.
After being shut out in the first two games of the series, Ouachita wasted no time scoring its first run of the weekend with a leadoff homerun from
Dustin Bermudez in the first inning of the finale. It was the first of Bermudez' two homeruns in the game. He also hit a solo round-tripper in the seventh inning, which proved to be the game-winning run in the one-run affair. It was the second two-homerun game for Bermudez during his Ouachita career, and also represented his second and third homeruns of the 2024 season.
The Tigers scored their other three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead, including an RBI double from
Wesley Scott, an RBI single from
G. Allen, and an RBI single from
Collin Liles.
In addition to Bermudez' two homeruns in the win, he also came in to pitch and earn a seven-out save, holding the Wonder Boys to just one run on one hit in the final 2.1 innings. It was his third save of the season.
Luke House earned his second straight GAC win, giving up three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk allowed in the first 4.2 innings of the scheduled seven-inning affair.
In the first game of Sunday's twinbill, the Tigers were held scoreless on just five hits. On the mound,
Chase Oberle was saddled with the loss after a quality start, giving up just two runs in the first 6.1 innings.
Hayden Childers and
Nate Gross combined to allow just one run on one hit in the final 1.2 innings.
The Tigers have a pair of midweek games lined up this week, traveling to Magnolia on Tuesday night to take on Southern Arkansas in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. before hosting Texas A&M-Texarkana on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
