ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team earned a Great American Conference series sweep and recorded its fifth and sixth consecutive victories with a pair of 9-1 wins over East Central on Sunday at home.
The Tiger pitchers picked up right where Saturday's game one starter
Cooper Timmons left off by allowing only two runs combined in Sunday's doubleheader.
Chase Oberle (3-4) earned the win in the first game of the doubleheader with a quality start of just one run allowed on 11 hits with seven strikeouts and zero walks in 7.1 innings of work.
Hayden Childers and
Weston Bailey combined to keep the orange Tigers (5-24, 2-13 GAC) scoreless and hitless in the final five outs.
In the series finale,
Luke House (4-1) earned his second complete game victory of the season, giving up just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in the full seven innings.
Offensive, the purple Tigers (15-10, 9-6 GAC) reached double-digits in hits in both games, combining for 25 for the day.
Collin Liles drove in five runs in the first game of the doubleheader despite only getting one hit, which was a grand slam homerun in the fifth inning. He also drove in a run later in the game on a groundout. The grand slam was Liles' first career homerun.
Michael Quinones went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the first game.
G. Allen, Welsey Scott,
Isaac Nowell, and
Tallon Heine all had two hits.
In the second game of the day, Allen went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-run homerun in the fourth inning. It was his fourth of the season and 29th of his Tiger career, moving him into a tie with Tyler Riebock (2018-2021) for second place all-time at Ouachita.
Tallon Heine also homered in the series finale with a two-run shot to left field in fifth inning to finalize the scoring. It was his first homerun of the season.
Dustin Bermudez went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks in the finale. Liles also had two hits in game three.
Ouachita is back in action at home on Tuesday, March 19 in a midweek non-conference game against Harding. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
