DURANT, Oklahoma – Records, milestones, and hot streaks highlighted Ouachita baseball's 16-4 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday in the first game of a Great American Conference road series against the Savage Storm.
Starting pitcher
Cooper Timmons needed five strikeouts to tie Ouachita's all-time record, and that's exactly how many Savage Storm batters he punched out in his six innings. The senior from League City, Texas is now tied with Steve Smith (2005-08) atop the record chart with 313 career strikeouts.
After
Joseph Bolin started the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning,
G. Allen followed up with a solo homerun in the third inning to become just the second Ouachita baseball player ever to hit at least 30 home runs. The senior from Little Rock is now behind only Destan Mackonnen, who hit 39 home runs at Ouachita in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Allen finished the game 3-for-5.
Speaking of
Joseph Bolin, the sophomore picked up right where he left off from Wednesday's midweek win over Texas A&M-Texarkana, where he went 3-for-3 with a double, a homerun and three runs driven in. Against Southeastern, Bolin went 2-for-4 with five RBI, highlighted by a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning.
Cade Burris continued his hot streak with a three-run home run in the game one win. It was his fifth home run in the last eight games.
Dustin Bermudez went 2-for-6 in the win, both hits traveling over the outfield fence. He hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and a solo shot in the ninth in the at bat immediately following Bolin's grand slam. It was his second game this year with two home runs and third of his career. His first was also against Southeastern in 2022. His two home runs on Friday give him the team lead at six this season.
Michael Quinones also homered in the game one win over Southeastern, a two-run shot in the sixth, marking his third of the season.
As a team, the Tigers (17-11, 10-6 GAC) scored their 16 runs off 13 hits for the squad's eighth consecutive game with double-digits in the hit category. The 16 runs is a season-high and marks the seventh game this year with double-digits.
In addition to Timmons' win,
Hayden Childers came on in the seventh and held the Savage Storm (9-18, 2-14 GAC) to one run on four hits for a three-inning save, his first of the season and second of his career.
Games two and three of the series will be played on Saturday as a double header starting at 1 p.m.
