TIGERS WALK-OFF SOUTHEASTERN IN DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT

ARKADELPHIA – Game one took extra innings, but the Ouachita softball team pulled off a doubleheader split with Southeastern Oklahoma State University Saturday afternoon at Langston Field.

Game One: Ouachita 4, Southeastern 3 (9 Innings)

The series opener was slow going for both Ouachita and Southeastern Oklahoma with the two teams going scoreless in the first two innings. The Savage Storm got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third.

The Tigers answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning. An RBI fielder's choice from Remington Adams scored Bailey King to get Ouachita on the board. Adams was then caught stealing, but the steal attempt allowed pinch runner Mackenzie Amaya to score on some smart base running to tie the game 2-2. The fifth, sixth, and seventh innings were all zeroes for both sides and Ouachita went to its fourth extra innings game in the span of 14 days.

Both sides continued to play great defense in the eighth inning, putting up scoreless frames. But Southeastern broke the tie in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. The Tigers got the first two runners on base. Adams came up big with her second RBI of the day to again score King to tie the game 3-3. Katelyn Provence followed with an RBI single of her own that scored Emma McCorkle to walk-off Southeastern by the final score of 4-3 and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Hannah Hunter earned her fourth win of the season in the circle, pitching all nine innings and striking out six in the walk-off victory.
Adams led the team with two RBI and King led with two runs scored. Five Tigers tallied hits in the win.

Game Two: Southeastern 9, Ouachita 0 (5 Innings)

Southeastern took control of game two early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. The Storm added two more runs in the third inning. Ouachita was held scoreless and fell in game two by the final score of 9-0 in five innings.

Four Tigers, Lauren Lester, Erin Williams, Katelyn Provence, and Emma Scales tallied hits in the loss.
Tuesday Melton got the start in the circle and earned the loss.
Maggi Huddleston pitched two innings of shutout relief to close out the game for Ouachita.

The Tigers will be going for a series win against the Savage Storm in a game-three rubber match tomorrow, Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at Langston Field.
