ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team split its non-conference doubleheader against Union University Tuesday afternoon at Langston Field.
Game One: Ouachita 3, Union 1
Ouachita's first game of the day started with both teams posting scoreless first and second innings. The Tigers broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from
Lauren Lester that scored Bailey King from first base to put Ouachita up 1-0. After a scoreless fourth frame, the Bulldogs tied things up 1-1 in the top of fifth.
But the Tigers were ready to answer.
Erin Williams came up with a one-out RBI single that scored King that put Ouachita back on top 2-1.
Remington Adams followed with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner
Mackenzie Amaya to give the Tigers a two-run lead over Union. Ouachita held Union to just one hit over the final two innings to secure the 3-1 win in game one.
Hannah Hunter earned her fifth win of the year on her fifth complete game. The Malvern native struck out five and allowed only four hits in the win.
The Tigers tallied seven hits in the win, with
Marli Huddleston and Lester both recording two of them apiece. King worked two walks and went 1-for-1 at the plate in the win.
Game Two: Union 3, Ouachita 0
It was a slow start for the Tigers in game two. Union scored runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Ouachita recorded its first hit of the game in the sixth inning off a Lester single, but the Tigers were kept off the board. The Bulldogs added a third run in the seventh and the Tigers fell by the final score of 3-0.
Lester and
Karley Burrow were the two Tigers who recorded hits in the loss.
Tuesday Melton pitched her fifth complete game of the season and struck out three in the loss.
Ouachita will get to take on Union again later this season, this time in a doubleheader on the road on Wednesday, April 10 in Jackson, Tennessee.
The Tigers will be back in action this weekend when they travel to take on the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders in a three-game GAC series starting Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. in Magnolia, Arkansas.
