MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita softball team dropped its doubleheader against Southern Arkansas University Friday afternoon to open the three-game GAC series.
Game One: SAU 7, Ouachita 1
The opening game of the weekend series started slow for Ouachita. Southern Arkansas plated one run in the first and two in the second to take an early 3-0 lead over the Tigers. Ouachita got things going in the top of the fourth inning when
Lauren Lester broke up the Muleriders' no-hit bit with a single to left field.
Erin Williams followed with a single of her own and
Remington Adams came up with an RBI bunt single that scored the pinch runner
Mackenzie Amaya to put the Tigers on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1.
SAU answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to push their lead out to six runs. Ouachita was unable to cut back into the Mulerider's lead and the Tigers fell in game one by the score of 7-1.
Four Tigers tallied hits in the loss.
Hannah Hunter started the game in the circle, pitched 4.2 innings and struck out three in the loss.
Game Two: SAU 10, Ouachita 0
In the second game of the evening, two Tigers went perfect at the plate;
Erin Williams went 3-for-3 and
Jordyn Merrett went 2-for-2, accounting for five of Ouachita's seven hits in the game. Southern Arkansas got things going early again in game two, scoring two runs in the first, three in the second and five in the third. The Tigers couldn't get their baserunners around to score and were held off the scoreboard, falling 10-0 in five innings to the Muleriders.
Tuesday Melton got the start and struck out two in the loss and relief pitcher
Kodee Batchelor struck out three in just 1.1 innings to close out the game.
The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow in the series finale against Southern Arkansas. First pitch is set for noon in Magnolia, Arkansas.
