ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader to first-place Oklahoma Baptist at Langston Field.
The first game of the day saw the first-place Bison jump out to a commanding lead with a seven-run first inning. The Tigers were able to scratch a run in the second when
Katelyn Provence scored from third as
Jordyn Merrett forced a throw by stealing second base. OKB added runs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Tigers scored their second run of the day in similar fashion to the first.
Remington Adams got the Bison catcher to attempt to throw her out at second to allow
Mackenzie Amaya to steal home at the same time. The Bison tacked on a final run in the seventh inning and the Tigers fell 10-2.
Lauren Lester and
Erin Williams were the two Tigers to record hits in the loss.
Kodee Batchelor pitched six innings in relief of the starter
Hannah Hunter and struck out two.
In the second game of the afternoon,
Tuesday Melton threw a complete game giving up just three earned runs and striking out two.
Lauren Lester recorded the lone hit for the Tigers in the bottom of seventh and Ouachita fell by the final score of 5-0 to the top ranked team in the GAC.
The Tigers will look to get back on track next weekend when they travel to take on the second-place Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University in a three-game GAC series starting Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m. in Bethany, Oklahoma.
