EXTRA INNING WALK OFF GIVES TIGERS DAY TWO SPLIT

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Ouachita softball team earned a day-two split at the George & Ola McCorkle Challenge, walking off Texas A&M-International 5-4 and falling to No. 11 Angelo State 3-1 on Saturday.

Game One: No. 11 Angelo State 3, Ouachita 1

In Saturday's first game, No.11 Angelo State struck first with one run in the third and added two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Ouachita was held scoreless until the seventh inning when a sacrifice fly from Emma Scales scored Riley Gillis to break up the Rambelles' shutout bid. ASU finished the inning and Ouachita fell 3-1 to start the day.

The Tigers out hit the No. 11 Rambelles 6-5 and held them scoreless in four innings.

Katelyn Provence led the offense with two hits.

Scales went 1-for-1 and had the lone RBI for Ouachita in the loss.

Catie Amador got the start in the circle and pitched a complete game, struck out three, walked zero, and allowed just one earned run across six innings of work.

Game Two: Ouachita 5, Texas A&M-International 4 (8 Innings)

In the Tigers' second game of the afternoon, both teams started scoreless through the first two innings. It was Texas A&M-International that got on the board first with an RBI double in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead.

After being held scoreless through four innings, the Ouachita offense woke up in the bottom of the fifth. Jessalyn Ahrens led off the inning with a single and soon stole second. A sacrifice bunt from Provence moved Ahrens to third. Bella Roseberry tied the game with an RBI single to third base. Two batters later, Roseberry was brought home thanks to a Baylee King RBI single to the shortstop that put the Tigers in the lead 2-1.

Ouachita had the Dust Devils on the ropes in the top of the seventh, but a solo home run from TAMIU tied things back up at 2-2. The Tigers couldn't get anyone home in the bottom of the inning, forcing the game to extra innings.

The Dust Devils plated two in the top of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Emily Reed led off the inning with an RBI single that scored Remington Adams, who had been placed on second base to start the inning due to the tiebreaker rules. A single from Marli Huddleston followed by a sacrifice bunt from Ahrens moved Reed to third. Provence followed with an RBI single to left center to score Reed and tie the game up once again, this time with one out and the score at 4-4. Then Kennedy Wilkie hit a pinch-hit RBI sacrifice bunt that scored the pinch runner Kyndall Fomby-Bell and the Tigers walked off the Dust Devils by the final score of 5-4.
