ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball fell twice in its GAC doubleheader against the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University on Friday afternoon at Langston Field.
Game One: Southern Nazarene 12, Ouachita 1
Ouachita got off to a slow start in the series opener as Southern Nazarene plated five runs in the first inning. The Tigers then held the Crimson Storm scoreless over the next three innings before SNU added two in the fifth and five in the sixth inning to increase their lead.
The Tigers broke up the SNU shutout bid in the bottom of the sixth inning after a two-out RBI single from
Kennedy Wilkie scored
Emily Reed from second base to put Ouachita on the board. This would be it for the Tigers and Ouachita fell by the final score of 12-1.
Remington Adams led the offense with two hits. Three other Tigers added hits in the series opener with Wilkie earning the lone RBI.
Catie Amador started the game in the circle, pitched 4.0 innings and gave up three earned runs, earning the loss.
Game Two: Southern Nazarene 9, Ouachita 1
After a scoreless first inning, Southern Nazarene struck first with four runs in the second inning. The Crimson Storm scored another in the third before Ouachita scored its first run of the game.
Emily Reed hit her fifth home run of the season, this one a solo shot to left center field, to put the Tigers on the scoreboard and cut the deficit to 5-1. SNU answered with two runs in the fifth and two in the seventh innings while holding Ouachita scoreless to bring about the final score of 9-1.
Reed and
Baylee King each recorded hits in the loss, with Reed's being a solo home run and King's being a double. Overall, Reed went 1-for-2 at the plate with the homer, an RBI, and a walk.
Karley Burrow earned the loss after starting in the circle for the Tigers.
Callie Kilburn and
Maggi Huddleston each gave up two earned runs in relief, with Huddleston adding two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.
The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow in game three against the Crimson Storm. First pitch is set for noon at Langston Field.
