ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team walked-off Southern Nazarene with a two-run homer to take down the Crimson Storm 3-2 in the series finale.
Ouachita got off to a slow start on the Saturday game three, as Southern Nazarene scored in the opening frame without recording a hit thanks to an error, a sac bunt and a wild pitch. After the opening mishaps, the Tiger defense locked in and held the Crimson Storm hitless through the first four innings.
The Tigers tied things up 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a solo round tripper from
Remington Adams, her third so far this season. But SNU answered in the top of the fifth inning with one run to retake the lead. Both teams posted scoreless sixth innings and Ouachita held SNU to one hit in the top of the seventh.
Baylee King got aboard the bases with a one-out fielder's choice that got the Tigers' lead runner out. But with two outs,
Emily Reed delivered a two-run home run, her sixth of the year, to right field to walk off the Crimson Storm by the final score of 3-2.
Adams led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate that included an RBI, a solo homer, and a walk.
Reed also recorded multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, a home run, and a walk.
Callie Kilburn got the start for Ouachita, pitched 3.0 hitless innings, and allowed no earned runs.
Kodee Batchelor earned the win after 2.0 innings of scoreless relief that included two strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
The Tigers will look to keep the success going next weekend when they travel to take on the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game GAC series that is set to start on Friday, March 21 at 6 p.m. in Shawnee.
