SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team dropped game one of its weekend conference series against Oklahoma Baptist on the road Friday night.
Ouachita got off to a good start thanks to
Emily Reed's seventh home run of the season, this one a two-run long fly that also scored
Baylee King to put the Tigers up 2-0 in the top of the first. Ouachita held Oklahoma Baptist to just one hit in the bottom of the first, but the game's momentum shifted in the second.
Oklahoma Baptist plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take its first lead of the game. The Tigers cut into the lead in the top of the third thanks to a groundout from
Remington Adams that allowed King to score for the second time today. However, this was the last of the Ouachita scoring. The Bison added one run in the third, and seven in the fourth to go up by 9. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth but left them stranded and Ouachita fell by the final score of 14-3.
King went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. King was one of two Tigers to record multiple hits as Reed went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.
Jessalyn Ahrens added a 1-for-1 performance with a walk.
The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow with games two and three of the series. The first game of the Saturday doubleheader is set to start at noon in Shawnee.
