ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team secured its second straight Great American Conference series victory and fourth overall of the season with a pair of one-run victories over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at home by scores of 1-0 and 4-3.
Game one was a pitching dual that saw only one unearned run cross the plate, while game two featured a four-run seventh inning for the Tigers to win walk-off style. Ouachita goes for the sweep on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon at Rab Rodgers Field.
In the opener, Ouachita's
Chase Oberle (3-2) earned the win after keeping the Bison scoreless on just four hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks in the first eight innings.
Tag Pacot came on on the ninth to earn his second save of the year.
Offensively, the Tigers had seven hits, two each from
Wesley Scott,
Austin Gathright, and
Reece McWilliams. The only run came across in the bottom of the second on a single down the left field line by Reese McWilliams on a hit-and-run play that saw
Austin Gathright score from first after the Bison left fielder misplayed the ball.
Oberle held the Bison to only two scoring opportunities in the first eight innings. OKBU loaded the bases in the ninth, but Pacot worked out of the jam to preserve the win.
In game two, the Tigers were held scoreless in the first six innings of the scheduled seven-inning affair while OKBU built a 3-0 lead. In the seventh, the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of walks and a single, and then tied the game in the next three at bats on two walks and one hit batter.
Joseph Bolin delivered the game-winner with a single that was deep enough to get over the Bison shortstop to send
Isaac Nowell across the plate for the fourth run.
The fourth-run rally overshadowed the performance of pitcher
Luke House (4-3), who tossed a complete game and only faced five batters over the minimum. House gave up three runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
