ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University swimming & diving teams picked up a sweep over cross-street rival Henderson State on Friday night at home, winning the men's dual 137-100 and the women's dual 100-98.
The 18th-ranked Tigershark men's team earned its fifth straight victory over the Red Wave, which entered Friday's dual ranked No. 25. The Tigershark women's team has now won seven in a row over HSU and 13 of the last 15 duals.
The men's team was highlighted by four records broken. The 400 free relay team of
Sam Ragsdell,
Stefan Duca,
Ian Redman Aguilar, and
James Savarese broke a Waggoner Pool record with a first-place time of 3:01.10.
Tyler Andruss broke the pool record in the 1,000 free with a first-place time of 9:30.24. Duca broke the pool record for the 200 back with a first-place time of 1:49.45. Pending verification,
Evan Wilkerson broke the S12 American Para Swimming record in 200 back with a time of 2:07.50.
Duca led the team in high points with first-place finishes in the 200 free and 200 back, while also swimming the second leg of the record-breaking 400 free relay.
Ragsdell was also in on three events wins, taking the top spot in the 50 free and the 100 free and taking lead in the 400 free relay winner. He finished third overall in high points.
Andruss led the team in average performance points, highlighted by the record performance in the 1,000 free and a second-place finish in the 500 free.
Overall for the men's team, there were four personal bests and five season bests. The women's team turned in 15 personal bests and six season bests.
Britta Andruss led the way in high points, highlighted by two event wins and one second place finish. She posted season-best times in winning each of the 100 free (53.16) and 200 free (1:54.81). She was leadoff of Ouachita's second place finish in the 400 free relay.
Kaitlyn Koenig finished second in the dual in high points, including a win in the 500 free and a season-best time of 1:58.38 in the 200 free in a second-place finish.
Aurora Ruiz and
Linzay Taylor also made the top eight. Ruiz won the 200 fly. Taylor turned in a personal best in the 200 back with a first-place time of 2:07.92.
Janna Moellenhoff had three top five finishes, including a second-place finish and a personal best time of 2:10.93 in the 200 individual medley.
Eden LaTurno had a productive dual for the Tigers with top three finishes in the 100 free, the 1,650 free, and as the anchor for the 400 medley relay team.
The Tigersharks now turn their attention to the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships, which will be held February 17-21 in Pensacola, Florida.
